History of WomanSage
The idea for WomanSage was formed around a kitchen table. That table belonged to a woman who was well known in local Orange County literary circles.
Jane Glenn Haas was a force to be reckoned with in an occupation normally reserved for men. She was a respected Orange County Register columnist, author and speaker. Dedication to her work, however, didn’t leave Jane with a lot of time to cultivate many female friends along the way.
As Jane grew older and more successful, she realized she was missing out on the camaraderie of other women — there were issues to discuss, problems with aging, things she wanted to share. So she decided to form a small group of other like-minded career women. That small circle grew into a group of women, sharing personal stories and forging strong, lifelong relationships.
But that wasn’t enough for Jane. While she enjoyed her new found friends, she was well aware of other women who were barely getting by, caught in the cracks of society, short on funds and self esteem. Could there be a way to channel the collective energy and talents of educated, successful women to help these “forgotten” women? Jane, along with the fledgling group, created a program of dinners and fundraising events as a method to fund helping women in need get back on their feet again.
WomanSage was born. What had begun as a small group has grown to to a vibrant social community totaling more than 2,300 women.
Jane Glenn Haas passed away in 2013 and she left her legacy with WomanSage. It was her dream to create a thriving lively group women and provide the platform for friendship, mentorship, and motivating events.
In 2018, WomanSage celebrates our fifteenth anniversary of recognizing the potential of women at midlife and we look forward to continuing to provide programs for women to reclaim their lives.
