Description:
Medical science is giving us the gift of another six to seven years of life, says a recent report by the MacArthur Foundation.

But what's the point?

Why add the years to the third third of life -- a time marked by a downward spiral of "give ups" -- give up driving, or walking without aid, or living alone -- the list is endless and seems to include everything except sex. (There's a blue pill to make sure sex is always possible, at least for men.)

Why add the years? Because we need those years to make even more of a difference in the world.

WomanSage asks you to challenge yourself in 2010.

We want you to think about what Ken Dychtwald, the foremost gerontologist and psychologist said in keynoting our Oct. 24 conference.

"Give yourself the gift of purpose," was his message.

"These extra years give you the opportunity to go from success to significance."

WomanSage asks you to join us in launching a decade devoted to Reinvention.

Reinvention of ourselves as individuals, as community members, as friends, wives, lovers, mothers, daughters, business leaders, loyal employees, devoted churchgoers.

WomanSage will do its part with monthly salon programs, philanthropy programs devoted to Reinvention, support for caregivers and for those of us who need a helping hand to once again become productive careerists.

Walk with us. Make sure you are active members. Please remember our annual dues -- $80 -- haven't changed in seven years.

Contribute to our programs. We need your commitment to give -- financially, if possible, or with your time and attention.

We are the women who made it happen in the first place -- the Women's Movement, equality in the workplace, opportunity for all.

We are WomanSage. Tell us how we can help you be all that you can be. Help us be vital in the lives of mature women.

My best wishes for a wonderful holiday season.
